Jon Stewart is hilarious and the transfer of the PAC is awesome.

I love these guys, and they have become my main source of political news lately. Their interviewing skills are amazing, I wish that all the candidates would make appearances on Jon Stewart.

He isn't really running for President.
he announced that he is forming "an exploratory committee to lay the groundwork for my possible candidacy for the president of the United States of South Carolina."
- 11 votes
I'm guessing he'll try to get on the ballot in SC. If he does, he'll place third and eliminate the bottom feeders.
If only Colbert had run from the start, the filed would have been down to three (including Colbert) before the insane 1,472 debates even started . . .

He can't get on the ballot - he missed the deadline, and S.C. doesn't accept write ins.
Too bad - he'd probably do better than Gingrich & Santorum!
- 4 votes
I'd of voted for him. The rest of the field is right TRASH!

That also misses the point since (1) its humor and (2) the ballot that is being held is NOT for the President of the United States of South Carolina, since it doesnt exist.
In flirting candidate style, he announced that he is forming "an exploratory committee to lay the groundwork for my possible candidacy for the president of the United States of South Carolina."
That ballot isnt for that.

With just a little faux campaigning in SC, I bet he can ramp up his poll numbers. Wouldn't Stephen Colbert polling near or even with the GOP front runners really highlight just what a joke they are?
Hmm, I wonder if Stephen can get on the Florida Primary ballot as "None of the above"?

Well, Colbert has a legacy of comedic actors running for the job. Remember Pat Paulson and Bill The Cat? And even comedic actors that were never particularly funny. What was his name, Ron something?
Actually, I think Pogo Possum was the most credible, even if he was very two-dimensional.
- 8 votes
No I don't remember Henry Gibson. The sad thing is, he probably would make a better President than anyone actually running for POTUS.
- 7 votes
my bad. I meant Paulson, and changed it on edit. Same generation, both appeared on Laugh-In.

Pat Paulson was on The Smother Brothers Show. He was hilarious! And, he was running against Nixon, would've been better for the country, that's for sure!
*I have now shown my age!*

I wasn't alive when Nixon was the President.
Many of us felt that way.

sky dog, wish I could vote you up more than once!

Actually the first President I remember hearing anything about was President Reagan.

1968- 4th grade. We sang...Humphrey, Humphrey, he's our man, Nixon belongs in the garbage can.
Wish people would've listened to the children!! ;-)

What Nixon did is childs play compared to what happens today. And people barely bat an eye....

Actually I think that most Presidents had the same opportunity and have done a lot of the things that are currently happening, the difference is that the amount of media that is easily accessible makes it more difficult for Presidents to hide what they are doing.
- 3 votes
Sure, more focus and accessibility now, but more tolerance for even the most extreme behavior as well. It's as though there is so much bad behavior (real and contrived) with a non-stop media circus screaming about it, it all seems to become mainstream, expected and acceptable. Unless you are running an opposition campaign, then nothing is acceptable!

I liked Bill the Cat. He was actually dead but even a dead cat is better than any of these guys.
- 3 votes
Here's a pic of Bill the Cat that probably wouldn't even exist if Newt Gingrich had gotten his way.

I'd forgotten how much Paulsen looks like John Kerry.
Mn Man and StevieGee, good links!

Newt Gingrich is my favorite comedian to run for office.

I'm in love with Maxwell the Pig. The zip line commercial is hilarious.

That pig drives me insane and I instantly change the channel.

I cant stand watching Gingrich either... oh you meant Maxwell.

Good heavens, fernando, that commercial is 30 seconds long! Your mother should have let you cry in your crib longer to teach you to tolerate annoyances! It isn't like that Chantix commercial with Robin and her horrible NYC accent that goes on and on forever!
- 2 votes
I would rather live my life not being annoyed and separate myself from annoyances at any opportunity.
And, don't talk about my momma, she is a saint.
- 2 votes
Well, it doesn't hold a candle to the damned catheter commercials that are running again!

I’ll sit back and wait for the officials and candidates to come out and say how worried they are that stunts like this diminish the role and respect for the positions of people already serving in public office. They should be greatful..This may drive their favorability ratings up to double digits.

I'm waiting to see if anyone has the hypocrisy to say that the Colbert campaign has any less dignity than the Whack-a-Mole primary we've been witnessing.
- 11 votes
I am sure there are tons of people with no sense of humor which would say that he is making a mockery of the election process, luckily they don't watch his show, so probably will never know about it.
The fact that he is just trying to show the power of the Super PAC and how it can be used to win an election will completely go over their heads.

Spot on fernando! And yes, it will go over their heads.

Colbert's stunts with his Super PAC have been really incredible and highlight the serious need for campaign finance reform. "Hilarious" and "educational" never taste this good together. Everyone involved should be applauded for their brilliant work.

What a hoot, a comedian gets 5% of the votes over Jon Huntsman's 4%, who seems to be the only republican candidate with any intelligence, foreign policy creditials, governing cred when it comes to balancing a budget and ranking among the lowest state in unemployment . I don't agree with his positions on healthcare, medicare and social security ie: (Ryan Plan).
The GOP touts Mitt Ronmey whose head turns around more than Linda Blair's character in the exorcist and spouts out just as much vile rhetoric.
So, let's see if the fake Republican Colbert, jumps in the race and grabs enough support away from Mitt Romney that he weakens him. What will Colbert do with his delegates? He knows he won't win the nomination, but he will be able to expose the corruption in the system that Super Pacs can cause. Corporations are people? These "people" buy the presidency and our politicians and in turn buy us too. We become slaves by proxy, all legal. Try and fight it all the way to the Supreme Court and you loose because the Supreme Court ruled that Corporations are people too and money talks.

Exactly his purpose - Go Stephen!!!
Colbert for the President of the United States of South Carolina! Woo Hoo!!!
- 8 votes
I'll vote for him. I wonder, since I'm in California, if I can fax it in?
- 3 votes
I'm surprised he did not do better, even if he wasn't on the ballot, most on the right are unaware of the fact that he is not a Republican.
- 4 votes
I think he plays a Republican so well on his show that if you hadn't seen the show but one time you would think he was a Republican.
- 5 votes
I always thought Colbert was playing a clueless, self-absorbed, uber-conservative, righteous egomaniac with quirky eyebrows, and people just assumed he was republican.
- 6 votes
Oh man, my dad completely thinks he's a full blown republican, to make fun of liberals and balance out Stewart. My dad refused to watch the Daily show ("liberal media" and all that) but watched a whole lot of Colbert up until I think someone on Fox said it was a joke. The my dad got all mad and now just makes fun of me for watching them.

My mom, an uber Republican, thought he was Republican. Of course, she was 88 years old and was experiencing dementia. But, she thought he was funny.
- 4 votes
I am 63, much older than a lot of people I encounter at the dog park. When Stewart and Colbert did their rally last year, one of the young guys felt compelled to "let me know" that Stephen is actually NOT a Republican....I can't help it if I look like a conservative!!!!!!
- 5 votes
Stephen Colbert is on of my heros... and he has the power to jab at the truth while uncovering the root of corruption... a true pundant.
- 2 votes
Smarter than most of them, right up there with Jon Stewart. The right may dismiss them because of their comedy, but they are educated, informed, intelligent commentators on a difficult subject. If you can make politics hilarious, you must be brilliant!
- 3 votes
One of our most beloved presidents was an actor, so why not a comedian?
Colbert probably has more common sense than the entire field of other candidates combined. I'd vote for him in a heartbeat.

the point is that citizens united is a sham.
that anybody can actually use a super pac to fund their own campaign. (thats 'illegal', btw.)
ok...

Gosh, I hope they're both still as good as their rally was ..... Pfffffft.
What a snore fest that was. :)
