I am constantly amazed by soldiers getting tricked into these kinds of deals. When I was a soldier we were almost forbidden from buying anything over $100 on credit before speaking to our NCOIC's or at the minimum someone who out ranked us. It always felt odd to have to ask permission as an adult to spend your own money but when you heard stories about guys buying cars at 20% interest rates you knew why.
